\u201dWhy we should never fear death\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are few things that elicit more fear and apprehension than the thought of dying. From movies to novels to stories around the campfire\u2026 man can often show a fascination with death on the one hand, and yet be inwardly petrified of it on the other.  This paradox I believe, actually reveals something\u2026 that we have a deep longing to KNOW what is on \u201cthe other side\u201d, and even an inward hope that it is something good.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scripture actually reveals in Ecc. 3:11, that God has \u201cset eternity in the hearts of men\u201d.  This is a sobering thought, and God probably intended for it to sober us\u2026, but not for us to be afraid of it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a follower of Christ, we need not fear death at all, and actually have every reason to look forward to the day when God will graciously call us home.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, we need to make a clear distinction here\u2026 because God makes one. For the believer in Christ, death is in fact, nothing to be afraid of\u2026 but rather something to be eventually embraced. In a previous post, I shared the story of a father of two sons who told them just before he passed away, \u201cI feel like a little boy on Christmas Eve!\u201d. His last emotions in this life were anything but fear. They were feelings of joy and expectancy! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, for those who have willfully rejected or neglected Christ, they have every reason to fear death. The scripture teaches that \u201cIt is appointed for man once to die, and after that to face judgment.\u201d  Heb. 9:27<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s consider a few verses that are written to help us with this\u2026 Paul writes in I Cor. 15:55, \u201c<\/strong>Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?\u201d  The answer to these two questions is the same\u2026 \u201cIt is gone!\u201d Jesus conquered death on the cross and then gave us hope in His resurrection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heb. 2:14-15 shows us how He did it.  \u201cHe too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death\u2014that is, the devil \u2014 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.\u201d What a powerful verse, if you\u2019ll take the time to really think about it.  Jesus didn\u2019t just tell us to not be afraid\u2026 He actually broke the power of death over us.  Now we can live a life free from the grip of fear\u2026 and be filled with a joyous hope for eternal life in the beautiful homeland God has prepared for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
